August's Disapointing Product

I'm going to introduce this new series to my blog, of products that have disapointed me. This might not be very often, because I am quite careful when I spend my money, but occasionally there's the odd impulse buy. And out of these impulse buys there can be some crappy products that make it into my collection, and this is sone of them.

This is the Superdrug own dry shampoo, and the scent is nice enough with orange blossom. However, the actual performance of this product is terrible, even from the second it goes on my hair it doesn't make my hair less oily, but rather the opposite, and makes my hair look super dirty and greasy when all I wanted was a little pick me up.

The white cast is also horrific, and I know you expect that from dry shampoo, but this takes it to a whole different level. Even after brushing through the white is left visible on my hair, and I've tried everything to avoid this.

I picked up the Superdrug version because it was on offer and my usual, Batiste (which I will definitely stick to from now on) was not on offer. However, this also meant, that I bought two of these dry shampoos and had to do the unthinkable and throw them out. Usually, even if I'm not a huge fan of a product, I'll use it up, but this was just impossible.

Basically, if this was a tl;dr, summed up, I do not recommend, go for batiste instead.

Ciate Island Hopping Review

I don't often review nailpolishes on this blog, but it does occasionally happen. May I point you to a post from forever ago about my TopShop polishes* which are still some of my favourites.

This polish called Island Hopping by Ciate came in my July Glossybox and I absolutely love it! It's the perfect accent nail for my favourite red of the moment, Rimmel Lasting Finish Polish in Double Decker Red. I also love this colour on the toes while my fingers are red, it sort of makes them more co-ordinated and like I made an effort.

The colour is a gorgeous red filled with orange and gold reflex, and although it is beautiful in the bottle, a colour this orange toned and sparkly on all of my nails is a bit much for my pale skin. Hence pairing it with the Rimmel colour so it's only one nail.

The application from the brush is beautiful and one layer is enough for an opaque coverage, however, mostly from habit, I'll always still apply two.

It's definitely a summery colour, which you can tell by the name, but it's also multiseasonal and will easily be able to transition into autumn/fall and even winter.

Kardashian Kontouring

New video went up again today! My 'Kardashian Kontouring' routine using only cream product. The lighting  is blanking out the depth of the contour to be perfectly honest, so I'll work on not having such bright lighting.

Video: My First Time and Update!

So, the youtube embed thing won't load for me for some reason. Which is super duper annoying when I already am late posting this on the blog side of things because it's been up on youtube for a few days.

However you will find a link to the video here and as ever in a video post on my blog, my youtube channel can be found here. Let's improvise with clicky links!

Also, just want to let you know why things have been a bit off on the blog this week. I.e. my twitter links haven't been going up as well as this post! I've been away in St david's in West Wales for the week with my mum, and I only had my phone hotspot to try and get on here so I had everything scheduled and it was all planned! As always, things never work out seamless as planned. If you haven't noticed, oops, I just pointed it out but if you had, that's why! Things should resume as normal from now on, and a new video will be up tomorrow!

Top 3 Drugstore Blushes!

I am not a huge blush fanatic, however blush can transform a look, and I'm slowly falling more into experimenting with this particular type of product. So it's about time for a post on my top 3 drugstore makeup blushers.

In 3rd place is my MUA cream blush in Bittersweet. This product is a lovely pink with peachy undertones, easy to wear colour that is brilliant for spring and summer, and ha been used a lot over this time period.

In 2nd place comes my Sleek powder blush in Pixie Pink. This is super bright, and almost a fluro pink so you would think with my pale skin, this is a no no. However, just the opposite, this is gorgeous with a light dusting across the apples of my cheeks I really get that 'english rose' sort of blush. You know the one, it makes you look like you've just run for the bus, but in a good way. Also, the outside of the packaging is gorgeous, so much so, in fact that I had to include a photo of it in this post.

Flash on
Flash off

And my top drugstore blusher is most definitely my TopShop cream blush in Head Over Heels. Although not as long-lasting, and a little 'wetter' in it's creaminess this acts as a dupe for my MAC Cremeblend blush in Something Special. I absolutely love this blush and actually love it for sentimental reasons because it was blush of choice on my 18th birthday. However, it photographs terribly and I can't get the exact shade to show, which is annoying for a blogger like me. Basically it's the middle of these two colours.

Tempest Fashion Ltd

Last Saturday the 10th August I went to an event in Cardiff for an upcoming fashion brand called Tempest. The whole thing was inside Ladybird nightclub and was a pop up shop and showcase of Tempest's different dresses and tops.

I have to say, the event itself was a lot smaller scaled and not as exciting as I was expecting, with just one small room being dedicated to this all day event. As well as that, one of the advertised appearances of AK from the TV show the Valleys was just sort of there, I can't say I was particularly upset about it because I don't really watch the show. It was just a little bizarre as she seemed to just kind of be there and around the place rather than promoting the brand as I was expecting.

Anyway, the clothes themselves were absolutely gorgeous, and because Tempest is a small fashion boutique which sells mostly online, it makes the items feel less common, if you buy a dress from TopShop you know anyone could have it, with Tempest 9/10 you won't find someone else in the same outfit.

I've just got a few photos of my two favourite items from Tempest to include in this post.

First is the Riri dress which is backless white/cream dress with lace trim on it. I absolutely love this and it's one of those 'birthday' dresses which you feel really snazzy in.

Next is the Mollie and this was my absolute number one fave of the day and I think I want it in both of the colours!I saw a model for the company wearing it in cream and was smitten from that moment, but unfortunately the cream is just a sample and they don't currently stock it.

You may be able to tell that all of their clothes are names, which is a really cute touch. They all seem to be girls names as well, it's just sweet being like "oh yeah I wore my lucy dress last night" to a friend.

One thing I will say, is that some of these items are expensive, but considering it's a boutique and the quality, Tempest is definitely one of those brands that you'll treat yourself with every now and then and keep in the wardrobe for a while rather than popping to the shops and buying things for the sake of it.

You can find Tempest on Facebook and if you do go and check them out, tell them I sent you! Also, to save you time, you will find their stockists online at Asos, Designer Desirables, Vestry and Minnies Boutique. However they also have physical boutiques in south Wales!

Cute Summertime OOTD

Cute Summer Outfit

This is just a cute little outfit I decided to put together on polyvore. And I'm on the verge of buying this skirt as I type...

The makeup I own but the rest is just oooooh that looks pretty items. All of them are also reasonably priced.

Let me know in the comments if you like these polyvore posts, I've done a few of them every now and then but I'd love to know your opinion.

New Video! Get Ready With Me!

Arbonne Pure Vibrance Hair Revitalizing Masque Review

Excuse the long title...but that's what this product is called. To be honest, myself I'm going to call it my Arbonne Hair Mask* from now on, but still.

As you will be able to see from recent videos, I have dipdyed my hair a little while ago, and my hair hasn't really repaired from the bleach since, so I've been looking at products like this, with the keywords revitalizing or conditioning just for a little bit extra moisture and to try and restore some of the health back into my hair. Yes, I know that's like basically impossible, but as long as it doesn't get any worse, right?

First thing I will say is that all of the packaging, including the box are really well designed and look very modern. It's also one of those things that fits into the bathroom really well, I think 99% of the world have blue or white bathrooms so this sort of sits nicely with this. Random, but I hate products in my shower that are like neon green or something weird like that where they just stick out and look awkward. Sorry, let me just repress my OCD there a little and get back to the review.

On first impressions, the consistancy was really nice, thick and almost sticky but that's good for an in shower mask that you don't want to slide straight out of your hair. Also, it's the little things, but when you unscrew the lid there's an extra little cover over the product that looks like the top to the Chanel Universal Bronze where you have to remove that to get at it. Random, but that's the only comparison I can think of.

A negative I will say is the scent of the product, it contains white ginger and although I love the scent of ginger, this is like uber-strong to the point where it doesn't even smell like ginger any more and just gets stuck in my nostrils.

Other than that, this product is nice and nourishing and basically does what it says on the tin, my broken ends are still there, but above them is healthy hair that feels nicely moisturised and strong without being weighed down. I wouldn't say that there has been a noticeable difference in the amount of split ends etc I have now that I've started using this compared to before. That being said, I have been told things like oh gosh your hair has grown etc so maybe it's making more of a difference than I've even noticed myself.

Top 5 Celebrity Looks of 2013

I thought this would be a really fun post to do, with a few gorgeous makeup looks from celebs I've seen knocking about, most of them are from this summer but all of them are from 2013. They are in no particular order, apart from the last one being my favourite!!! Also, surprisingly, this isn't just a list of the celebs I like the most with particularly good makeup, if it were, Beyonce would have made the list.

Pale skin: Check. Deep Red Lip: Check. Gorgeous lashes: Check. Thick eyebrows: Check. A little bit of shimmer: Check. Need I say more?

I've been loving experimenting with a bold lip lately, and I've even picked up Neon Orange from MAC so this look by Jessica Alba is a perfect way to show how to do it right. This coral orange combined with her more peach toned dress and bronzed skin looks unbelievable.

I can sometimes look a bit of a fool with an intense smokey eye, I don't have that much lid space. But Jessie J pulls it off incredibly during the Chime for Change Concert this June in Twickenham Stadium. I loved this look as soon as she set foot on stage just mwah!

This is another Golden Globes choice, but who can not say that this makeup on Anne Hathaway isn't beautiful and simple all wrapped in one smiling bow.

I think this one is my favourite. Iggy Azealea's makeup always makes me melt inside and this look with a little bit more colour on the lid than she usually goes for just makes me want to be her. I know the photo is a bit grainy but just ignore that and soak up the beauty.

Nars Laguna Bronzer - Illuminator Review

This was my first purchase from Nars, and as you can imagine, I had ridiculously high expectations and wanted this to be the best product I'd tried yet.

The Nars Laguna Illumator or Illuminating bronzer. I went for this over the traditional bronzer, which is a huge cult favourite, mostly because of the price, this was quite a bit cheaper and I just wanted to give it a shot. I wasn't sure if the laguna would be a little dark for me too so it would be easier to wear this illuminating version rather than the normal powder bronzer.

On first impression, I was severely disapointed with this product but I think a lot of it what to do with the fact that I didn't know how to apply it correctly. With more uses, especially when I took this on holiday with me to Zante (see a post about my holiday fashion), I found out how to properly use it and now love it.

To apply this product I use my Real Technique's Contour Brush which is available in the Core Collection, and blend this over the top of all the other face products I use. It does sink into the skin a little bit for a more natural appearance so if you want a lot of colour a couple of thin layers will be your way to go.

The product is a beautiful mix of brown and orange with a bronze or even golden shimmer to it, also, unlike a lot of liquid illuminating bronzers, this doesn't gather or sit unevenly on the skin, which creates that horrible muddy effect. It blends beautifully and sinks into the skin just enough to make it look natural without the product dissapearing five minutes after application. I picked this up from Space N K (along with something from By Terry that will be reviewed soon!) for £22 compared to £26 for the powder formula or even more with £29 being the price on the multiple stick version.

Although this is still expensive, that's Nars for you., and it's around the same as a blush or bronzer from Benefit to put it into perspective.

New Obsession: Smash!

I'm not sure if you know, but I am obsessed with the 50s and especially Marilyn Monroe. Something about her is absolutely fascinating, and I can't put my finger on it. Whether it be, her untimely death surrounded by conspiracy, her complicated childhood, or the damaged woman that peeked through the surface of this glamorous star, something about her is compelling to me.

Most people who know me know about this obsession, I literally reread her wikipedia page constantly and she's even the lock screen on my phone. My nan's well aware of this, and mentioned to me this TV show she's started watching called Smash. It's an American program made by NBC and the second series is just airing in the UK.

As you can guess I'm utterly obsessed! I'll just give you a quick synopsis of the show. The programme is about the journey of a newly created broadway show about Marilyn Monroe and all of the process including the casting of the lead. This is where it gets interesting, there are two girls fighting over the part. Karen and Ivy, played by Katherine McPhee and Megan Hilty, both audition and are given call backs. Ivy is a seasoned broadway performer who looks a lot like Marilyn and is also close friends with one of the writers, the character Tom, so in real life (not a tv show) the part would be hers. Then there's Karen, who has never even been in the chorus of a broadway show, but turns up to the audition and is the only one not in costume and sings a song that shows Marilyn's vulnerability rather than playing up her sexiness.

I need to stop talking because I love it so much and I can't handle the fact that I just found out the show is being cancelled after the second series finishes. I know that it's going to turn into my new Veronica Mars, which I have watched over and over because I'm still in denial that it got cancelled.

Elle Magazine Bumble and Bumble Freebie!

You may have already seen that this offer is available but just in case you haven't:

In the September issue of Elle Magazine you can get a rather generous sample size (50ml) of the Bumble and Bumble Thickening Spray.

This product, and brand, is a cult favourite and to get Elle magazine with this, which by the way, is worth £7.50 is brilliant. I love magazines that have freebies, which you should know because I have a post about magazines that include samples and whether it's worth the time or money. But I especially love when there are freebies in magazines I already read, and Elle fits into this catagory.

I tried this out today and I do think it's made a difference, I was in work and it kept all my baby hairs in place and that's just from blowdrying roughly after applying this. I think it's really innovative that you don't apply this after styling but before, and it creates hair ready to hold a style and shape. If you'd like a more in depth review after frequent use, I'll be happy to do so but my first impression is that I'm going to like this product!

(Also sorry about dissapearing for a couple of days, if you don't follow my Twitter, I mentioned there that I wasn't feeling too well and just needed a bit of time to rest up and get better.)

New Fashion App!

I have been seeing people post about the Fresh app all over YouTube lately and I thought I'd let you guys know about my new favourite fashion app, which is completely different.

If you are a fashion junkie it's the combination game and shopping app combined, called Covet.

You can enter events with different day to day specifications that you have to style an outfit for. But the twist is, from this, you can win real prizes of designer clothes or accessories.

Although, I've yet to win anything! :( Need to get practicing with my styling skills I guess.

If this sounds appealing at all, you can download the app from the iTunes app store. I'm not sure if it's available on any other networks because, well I'm an apple junkie and have an iphone! But search it and give it a try!

Let me know what you think about this app and what outfits you create.
