Bit of a Change!

Just to let you know I'm changing the way I address PR samples on my blog. I feel like I'm repeating myself a lot clarifying that I was sent products in future I will asterisk at the bottom of the post if products are free samples. If you see no asterisk they are not free and I purchased them with my own money. These changes will be taking part from now on, however, I will not be backtracking through all my other posts because I have already made clear what I've been sent vs bought.

Thanks guys, that's all for today. See you with a new post tomorrow!

Famous Cosmetics

As mentioned in my FOTD, this is my review of some Famous by Sue Moxley products!

All of the products are available in Superdrug and online here.

Everything I've tried has been ridiculously pigmented and really top quality products for a fraction of the price. I would like to point out that a little birdie told me that these products are also made in the same factory as Bobbi Brown to show just how high the level these products are being made at is.

Hot Rollers vs Tongs

At Christmas I got some hot rollers! I was so excited about getting Hollywood waves and 40/50's style hair but it can be very hit and miss to use rollers. So I was inspired to write a blog post and hope you could relate. What's better? The control of Tongs or the versatility of hot rollers.

It's been a while since I've found myself joining a new website so I thought I'd share with you all about my new venture out on the internet! It's polyvore, now I had an account forever and a day ago but I was trying to find a way to style Jeffery Campbell Lita shoes (well dupes, keep an eye out for OOTDs) and a google search led me back.

My account is here. Expect to see some sets and maybe wishlists the like on here because they have a blog feature where it forwards straight to your blog. That will indeed come in handy. I've got only one or two up at the minute but if you want to go take a look feel free! :)

That's all for today, back to usual tomorrow.

Garnier Gradual Tanner Review

Just to give you a warning before I start, this will most likely be a pretty boring review of something you've all used before. But, I was feeling a little paler than usual from being locked away revising for the only time we had a little bit of sun and I felt the need to rectify the situation.

Instead of a spray tanner I went for the Garnier gradual tan, for something pretty natural. I thought it would take forever to build up but after two uses one day after eachother I was oraaaaange! It looked like a normal fake tan, which meant the inevitable streaks. Oh so many streaks, my arms were okay maybe one spot that I'd probably missed myself but my legs were horrendous!!!! I'd been a little bit more generous on my legs, because they're the palest part of me. That was a mistake. I don't know what exactly happened but there were streaks galore and one leg was darker than the other, though I'm sure I applied the same amount. Nightmare. I could still feel a sort of moisturiser residue the next day so it couldn't have absorbed fully. I exfoliated in the shower and applied the thinnest layer I could possibly get over the top to try and even it out and it seems to have worked but I'm now pretty skeptical about this product.

Streaky leg. Excuse the weird feet and pj bottoms. SHHHH!

I think the secret to it is really thin layers soaked into the skin instead of slathering it on. With a thick layer no matter how well you rub it in, it just does not work the same. So warning, if you ever use this be careful. Once I got the hang of applying a really small amount it worked okay and like I had expected first off.

Haircare Routine

A while ago I posted saying my hair was in awful condition and that I needed some help to get my hair in better condition. Since then I've given in and cut my hair and picked up some new products to put into my haircare routine so I'll just give you a quick run down of exactly what I do to try and maintain the condition my hair is in now.

Firstly, shampoo is no big deal to me, gimme anything that's on offer in the supermarket, same for conditioner. BUT! They have to match, I don't like it when my shampoo and conditioner don't match...it bothers me a lot more than it should. As well as that twice a week I use Phil Smith Long Locks conditioner and Aussie 3 minute miracle. Usually a Monday and Friday. These are deep conditioners so they get your hair a lot more nourished, it's like the equivalent of a scrub or facemask but for your hair. Just a nice treat to make it feel better.

After all this is the traditional sort of haircare routine. I roughly towel dry my hair to get it about 40% dry and either get changed do my makeup for 5-10 minutes. Then I apply the Aussie Miracle Hair Insurance Leave-in Conditioner spray and the HotFish protective straightening mist before I dry my hair. After drying I use a serum, at the moment it's an Aussie one for coloured hair.

That's it for my haircare going from just a heat protectant to this is a bit of a jump for me but the pay off is really noticeable.

MAC Heavenly Creatures

They've finally cottoned on that 90% of the reason that people continuously get excited for MAC's new collections is the limited edition mineralize skinfinishes that are probably the most hyped products from all of MAC.

The collection consists of mineralize shadows, blushes and skinfinishes with a few lipsticks and cremesheen glasses. The main focus of the collection is definitely the mineralize element. There are some crazy colour combinations but everything looks really cool and I'm trying really hard to restrain myself from buying because you know you'll use it and never be able to find the same thing ever again! Okay, I'm being a little dramatic but it's true. You'll find dupes but it's never the exact same just similar. Downside to limited edition collections right there.

Have you tried any of this collection? Or been stuck looking for dupes from another limited edition product or something that's been discontinues?

This has been a loooong time coming. I mean what beauty/fashion blog doesn't have an OOTD now a days? I had to finally do one. All details under the cut.

(excuse the unflattering angle. I was just like "mother, take a photo of me for my blog". Didn't really plan it out)

Aussie 3 Minute Miracle Review

I feel like my entire blog has been revolving around nails lately, weird because I wrote a lot over the past few weeks but just everything looks nail-ey. (technical term). Let's inject a bit of hair with a review of Aussie 3 minute miracle deep conditioner/treatment. View full review under the cut.

PR Advice and FAQ's

This is a pretty taboo subject, but I get asked questions on the topic so much, I wanted to address it. So before anyone gets a bit annoyed about the subject of this post, please bear in mind that I get asked this multiple times every week and it is just easier to once and for all talk about it.

If you hadn't noticed by my 'Keeping Organised for School' post, I'm slightly OCD with my organisational habits. This weird behaviour is more noticeable if you ever see my itunes or email account. I kid you not. All songs names, album artwork on everything and with my ipod (before I got an iphone) the lyrics from all the songs were copied and pasted individually to every son. Now that you've got a grasp of that...imagine my email.

This is where I can help new(ish) beauty bloggers, you would not believe the amount of emails, tweets and messages I get asking about how to contact companies. Most of this is done through contacting PR companies. You can go about this in two ways, contacting PR companies because you want to generally test out products you've not tried before or specifically targeting a brand and finding their PR company or press department. It's not as complicated as it sounds, promise. But I'll keep the bulk of this under a cut, because if you're not a blogger yourself, this is likely to not interest you. But if you are? Click read more and I'll break it down a bit more.

High-End VS Drugstore

This post has been a long time coming...but I just never seem to be able to find the right words to describe the difference between high end and budget products with the right balance and always end up sounding like a spoiled brat who will only have the best, even if that means a £40 foundation, or someone who wouldn't spend that much money on anything apart from bills. So, I've tried again and again but finally I think this is the right balance of fair and slightly biased opinion to show you all my overall view of the difference between the two.

It's an endless debate in the beauty world. What's better? Drugstore or High End products, most people gravitate to high end but is it only because the products are good or that the luxurious feeling we get when we know that it's wroth a lot of money. Let's face it, whenever there's an innovative new high end product, give it a few months and there'll be a dupe from all the drugstore products and now it's even starting to go vice versa. Revlon Lip Butters vs Clinique Chubby Sticks anyone? It's almost impossible to get a real answer for this so the way I'm going to do it is break down into makeup categories and see which one wins each round. The winner is the one with the majority? Let the odds ever be in your favour - shameless 'Hunger Games' reference right there.

Soho Silk Nails Inc Base Review

This might seem like an odd thing to review, but hear me out. It's quite a different product to any other base I've used and there are pros and cons that I wanted to let you guys know about!

Top 10: Eyeshadows

This is actually the last one. I wanted to do a few more but I couldn't actually think of a whole ten for some essential makeup things, foundation, mascara and blush were all also meant to make this miniseries. Oh well!
So here is my top 10 eyeshadows of the moment:

1. Sable - MAC. This has been a must in my makeup bag for soooo long. I got it years ago now but it's still one of my best ones!

2. Smog - Urban Decay. This is inside the New York pallette and is the most gorgeous brown smokey eye colour. It's just the perfect warmth and shade for my skin tone, the only problem is the amount of fallout you get. But I'm willing to work around that for the gorgeous colour.

3. Sketch - MAC. As my first velvet shadow from MAC, thumbs up! It literally feels like soft velvet brushing against your skin during application. This colour is pretty unusual but still it's fun and I love adding a bit of colour with this.

4. Midnight Cowboy - Urban Decay. This is again in the New York pallette, lovely inner 1/3 colour which gives the 'doll' eyes that I love so much. I wouldn't know how to describe this colour, it's not quite gold but it's not bronze or cream I honestly don't know....but whatever what it is, it's wonderful.

5. Mink - No7. Again, another inner third colour. This is very diverse. Works with smokey eyes, neutral eyes...everything! I love it a lot and it was a pure hit and miss find. I swatched two or three colours and hated them all and I was about to move onto the next stand when this caught my eye. It was a love at first sight product, and that's usually when you will actually use something.

6. On and On Bronze - Maybelline Colour Tattoo. This has been my go to for months and I still feel like I haven't made a dent in it. It's perfect for sort of summer when you just want to leave your house. A swipe of this with mascara and I'm out of the door. It also doubles as a brilliant base for some heavier looks.

7. Audrey Black - Famous by Sue Moxley. (Left hand side.) Expect a review of a few of these products soon, but this eyeshadow is brilliant for darkening out the crease and it has some blueish glitter in it so it doesn't look too black and harsh. Just a thumbs up. Everyone needs 'that colour' for their crease and for me this is it.

8. Punk Purple - ELF. Technically this is a cream liner, but I only ever use it as a shadow. Although I don't wear a huge amount of colour on my eyes, purple is one of the few I find myself falling back on a lot.

9. Snatch - Urban Decay. Again, a more coloured shadow. Looking back almost all the rest have been neutral. But this is still nicely calm and doesn't make me concious of the amount of colour I have on. You can brighten it up and use it as a blending colour for a bright look or wear it with a brown and make it calm and neutral. All in all, great eyeshadow. I have to buy all the urban decay shadows mentioned individually though. I only have them in palette form and usually I'd rather use a substitute and use something else than fish out a pallette for one shadow.

10. Orange - MAC. This is completely different from all the rest but it's an amazing colour and works as a base for red lipstick to make it slightly more orange toned as well. Just in general amazing! A lot of people have been like yeah it's orange but what shade is it? It's actually called orange. Promise!

Top 10: Lip Products

If you haven't guessed, this is a little mini series. Only 1/2 more. But for now, lip products, again it's probably going to change with new purchases etc.

Essie Polish Spending Spree!

Okay okay, I admit the title may be a little dramatic but I'm trying to make myself feel as guilty as possible for discovering the Essie stand in boots and buying four polishes. NO BETHAN NO! My bank balance really doesn't like the Essie stand so I'm trying to dislike it too...but it's basically impossible. Anyway, here's a quick photo of the polishes I got:

They're adorable...I am quite glad I bought them even though my money doesn't agree.
So I got (from left to right) Ballet Slippers, Lilacism, Cute as a Button and Mint Candy Apple. They;re all sort of muted colours apart from cute as a button which is still not as bright as most corals around right now. I can wait to try them all out, let me know if you want a review!

That's all for today, just a short and sweet post.

Wake Me Up Foundation Review!

I caved. I've been looking at buying this foundation foreeeeevveeeerrrr from it being on the Made in Chelsea sponser ads to it's first release, I haven't been able to escape this foundation. When the blogging world jumped on the bandwagon and everyone started talking about the glitter visible in the bottle, I fell totally and utterly for the hype and finally picked it up!

17 Fest Of All

Boots currently have a new deal on 17 products, spend just £6 and you get a free 'Fest Of All' kit. Before I even get into talking about it can we all just take a minute to appreciate that pun. 'Fest Of All' Best of all or festival who knows!?? oh 17, you made my day when I saw that on the shelves of Boots.

Anyway! Inside this adorable little package comes what 17 consider the must haves for a festival. I can't tell you how long the offer is running for but for £6 being the minimum, they're bound to sell pretty quickly, so run! When you first open the kit you're greeted by some lovely green paper to wrap up all the products, this is a pretty nice touch and just makes the whole thing look brilliant. All of the kits are exactly the same, no different colour combinations etc so when you rip into the paper (or carefully peel so you don't damage it and can keep it) you'll find a kohl eyeliner pencil in Onyx. No one can ever have enough black eyeliner pencils to definitely a good find.

The 24 hour instant bronzer, which looks to be a deluxe sample size but that's good enough for me considering it was free. Now this must be the most dissapointing item fro me because I'm not a huge fan of instant bronzers and if you're in a festival, you better be prepared for rain and that will just run right off you.

Finally a full size nail polish in the shade Tropical Island. This is a nice summer item and the coral colour reminds me a little bit of a more orange version of Essie's Cute as a Button. It'll be really nice for when it starts getting hot out, can't wait to get a bit of a tan and use it.

I'd definitely send you off to Boots to pick up this and 17 is a good brand to try anyway. I highly recommend their lipliners and BB cream, which is more than £6 anyway! It's a really great idea...even if I wouldn't actually use any of these for a festival.

Montagne Jeunesse - Travel Pamper Pack

This nifty idea really intrigued me when I heard from Montagne Jeunesse again recently. They mentioned they're pamper kit that was perfect for on the go use. At first I was like yeah alright, you won't really need any pamper stuff when you're away but this little thing is quite genius with the way it incorporates necessaties and pampering, luxury items into a little kit. If you're vegetarian especially, the shower gel would be hugely helpful in case your hotel mini shower gel is not suitable.

How-To Contour Video Feat. Mally

New Makeup Collection by Liz Earle

We've all heard of her cult favourite the Cleanse and Polish hot cloth cleanser by now but Liz Earle has launched a new makeup line! I hadn't heard anything about this although it has been out since May and it's almost July. The only Liz Earle information that has ever filtered to me has always been about skincare, or maybe I just wasn't paying enough attention. Anyway, that's besides the point. This makeup collection is starting to build a strong following in the beauty world with a selection of staple pieces and more creative products.

She actually spent 4 years creating these products to make sure they had no controversial ingredients but still kept the high quality and texture we expect from all products these days. As you can see the packaging is sleek, mordern and not too showy to be taken seriously. I'm definitely going to be on the lookout for a counter now that I know this. If Cleanse and Polish is anything to go by, this collection is going to be the new cult brand for us all to follow.

One of the items already receiving hype is the Sheer Skin Tint - shown above - which is the brand's tinted moisturiser. There have been mixed reviews but the range is still gaining momentum and may turn out to be as popular as the skincare counterparts.

Check out the products here.

TopShop Nails Review

I was kindly sent a selection of 5 different nail polishes from TopShop's new makeup/beauty line. These Nails by TopShop polishes are getting the most hype out of all their products in the beauty line, especially with in the online beauty community. This is because of the interesting variations on classic colours and a whole host of unbelievably original, unusual polishes. They're really worth the hype and after testing out all of the polishes I was sent I can safely say all of them are of great quality and deserving of all the attention.

Underneath the cut is photos and detailed reviews of all the colours I tried.
